About Baby Bird Blooms
The faces behind the blooms
Hi, I’m Chera — the grower, dahlia enthusiast, and heart behind Baby Bird Blooms, a small urban flower farm growing in Calgary, Alberta.
My husband Taylor is my partner in all of it — hauling soil, building garden structures, digging and cleaning tubers with me in the middle of the night, and cheering me on through every season.
What started with a few tubers in containers and grow bags quickly grew into something I couldn’t contain —literally. My fascination with dahlias demanded more space, and before long our front yard was transformed into rows of blooms.
The garden today, the dream ahead
As of 2026, Baby Bird Blooms will officially offer dahlia tubers for sale across Canada, with fresh dahlia stems available locally throughout the summer and fall. We are still a small operation, but every year our garden grows a little more.
The long-term dream is to eventually move somewhere with more land —space to grow more dahlia varieties (including our own introductions), expand into other cut flowers, have dedicated growing space for fruits and vegetables, and so much more!
I hope to share our journey and knowledge with others as we learn along the way.
The Story Behind the Name
Long before there were blooms, there was just Baby Bird.
In 2011, on a date with my future husband, Taylor affectionately called me “Baby Bird” while we were listening to country music and eating ice cream. The endearing nickname stuck and has stayed with us throughout our relationship. At the time, I never imagined it would one day inspire the name of a flower farm.
When it came time to name this little farm, the choice felt obvious, because Baby Bird Blooms feels like a reflection of the growth that happens when you begin to believe in what you’re capable of — and the love and support of my husband, who helped make that possible.
Growing flowers and food is a labour of love. It takes patience, curiosity, and a willingness to nurture something small while believing in what it might become. In many ways, Baby Bird Blooms reflects that same spirit — a dream becoming a
goal, trusting the path ahead, and the belief that it’s worth pursuing.
Finding the courage to turn my passion into something more — into a flower farm — is still just beginning. I’m grateful to be embarking on this journey with my incredible husband, who has always encouraged me to bloom.
